The Michigan Humane Society received a call about a puppy who was supposedly chained to a couch that was thrown out on the street. Chris Ouwerkerk followed up on the call and made his way to the neighborhood. In front of the home in question were two trash bins, and Chris noticed something in between them. "I noticed that in front of the abandoned home there was a garbage can and a recycling can and there was a puppy sitting in between them," he recalled, "As soon as I stopped and got out of the van the puppy got up and looked over at me." Chris said the puppy was friendly and happy to see him, but he got the hunch that there was something else near those trash cans.
As he rooted around the trash cans, he found that his suspicion was correct. Behind the two trash cans was a kitten, curled up in a ball attempting to stay warm. "I believe the kitten and the puppy were in there cuddling together trying to stay warm and dry," he noted. He took them back to the shelter where they both received vaccinations yet never left each other's sight, as Chris believed that the two were partners in crime.
