It was two years ago when Wang Kaiyu purchased what he thought to be two puppies. Kaiyu resides in Maguan County, which is located in the Yunnan province of China and borders Vietnam. He was working on his banana farm one day when a Vietnamese tradesman approached him with the puppies, claiming them to be excellent watch dogs. Kaiyu figured it was a worthy investment and made the purchase. For the next two years he bathed, groomed, and fed his pets and watched as they grew.
Over time, Wang began to notice that their attitudes and appetites differed from those of normal dogs. It wasn't until he saw a wildlife protection exhibition that he realized he had been caring for two Asian black bears, and not dogs. Wang, who cared deeply for the bears, called the police in hopes that he could find the pair a safe new home. On June 30th, the bears were sent to the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center of Yunnan. Feng Lingui, who works at the center, told interviewers that the bears are in good health.
