Seeing a baby animal experience happiness like this tiny penguin does in the video below is enough to fill anyone's heart with pure joy. The way this tiny tuxedoed fella reacts to this man's touch is absolutely precious.
The life of a baby penguin, or chick, isn't always full of laughs. According to KidZone.com, "As soon as the egg is laid (penguins lay one or two eggs at a time), the female dashes out for dinner, leaving the male to watch the nest." So, the first thing these penguins experience is their mom leaving them. Yes, she's leaving solely to find nourishment, but that's still a bummer of a way to start life if you ask me.
When the mother comes back some 2 weeks later, it's the "the male's turn to head out for food, leaving the female with the egg." The first weeks of these chicks' lives are spent with only one parent at a time. But, to reiterate, it's for their own good in the long run.
Finally, when a chick hatches, "it immediately starts calling so that its parents will learn to recognize its voice." After that, when the penguin parents feel like their little chicks are ready to be independent, they both head for the ocean and "The chicks are left in a group together (sort of like a daycare). When the penguin parents return with dinner they recognize their chick by its voice." Though it seems like they're apart for a good amount of the chicks' upbringing, the bonds between parent penguins and their baby birds are incredibly strong
