Our hearts broke when we learned that this poor circus lion lived in a cage for 13 years. However, nothing could've prepared us for the sight of watching him feel the grass beneath his paws for the first time. Watch as this big cat gets his first taste of freedom after a lifetime of captivity, leaping from his enclosure and rolling joyfully on the ground. The lion's relief is palpable and we're blubbering messes coming to terms with the horrifying circumstances that prevented this wild animal from being, well, in the wild.

According to Ranchos dos Gnomos, the Brazilian sanctuary that rescued the lion, he had been born into the circus life and therefore couldn't simply be dropped back into the wild due to veterinary needs and the feeding assistance he required. However, their mission is to give the big cat a peaceful, dignified life despite the fact that he'll carry out his days in captivity. Here at SF Globe, we're so thankful for organizations like Ranchos dos Gnomos for removing majestic animals like this lion from inhumane treatment. This moment is truly unforgettable.

What did you think of the circus lion's frolic in the grass? Does this make you reconsider circus enjoyment? Sound off in the comments below and make sure to share if you found this clip as moving as we did.
