This story of 'Beauty' meets beast is certainly unlike any you've ever heard. In this instance, Beauty is an American bald eagle who was tragically shot in the face by one beast of a human. With most of her beak obliterated, she entered the care of raptor rehabilitator Jane Cantwell. Under Jane's supervision, Beauty would undergo a one-of-a-kind operation that stood as her only chance of survival. She was going to be the first bald eagle with a prosthetic beak.
The problem was, a prosthetic beak for an American bald eagle (or any bird for that matter) didn't exactly exist yet. That's when mechanical engineer Nate Calvin took matters into his own hands. This was unchartered territory for everyone involved, but the determination of these few pioneering souls made the difference between life and death for this bald eagle.
Other than the American flag, there is perhaps no symbol more synonymous with the United States than the American bald eagle. After its removal from the endangered species list in 2007, the bald eagle population has continued to flourish and thrive all over the country. Let's hope that whoever shot at Beauty realizes the error of their ways, and never tries to do something so foolish again.
The story of Beauty is one of both anger and triumph - story of never giving up when the end result is bigger than you are. Most of all, it's a story of love and respect for the creatures of this earth. If you found Beauty's story as touching as we did, spread the message to your fellow animal lovers.
